Requirements for the Computer Science Major/Minor

At Drew University, computer science students learn through experience. In many courses, students and instructors explore core computing topics through working on projects for real customers. In 2009, we have ongoing projects in collaboration with:

  • Fairfield Advisors, a hedge fund
  • Jamseed, an Internet startup company
  • The Parker on the Web Project at Stanford University
  • The Drew Center for Civic Engagement
  • The Drew University Library
We bring many projects into the classroom so that students may engage new concepts in the context of real-world problems. Our students find the interaction with customers and with one another both exciting and valuable.

Other opportunities for real-world learning include internships and summer research through the Drew Summer Sciences Institute. This year, several students have engaged in research projects in our department and in the Department of Physics. Other students have taken internships with the following organizations: Computer Science at Drew provides students with a liberal arts computing education. In addition to strong technical skills, Drew's program stimulates communication, design, and business skills. Students graduate with an understanding of key application areas of computing and an appreciation for the interplay between technology and society.
